It’s a FLASH! This is Flash, note his perfect head tilt when he heard the shutter of my camera click. Flash is a Basset Hound who just happened to come in to Prarie Paws Rescue on a day I was there photographing. He was definitely ready for his close up!

I had the pleasure of meeting some super hero animal rescuers & wickedly adorable dogs and a couple cats this weekend in Jamestown, ND.

This little sweeties name is Libby. She is such a nice snugly girl, even though she is very timid and shy. With help from her foster family she is learning how to be an amazing member of a family.

Oh How I Love A Rescued Pet!

I’ve never understood why there is doubt about rescued animals & animals that come from the shelter. I grew up thinking when you wanted a pet that was where you went.. (must be the crazy Californian in me) Over the last year I’ve become involved in animal rescue. I’ve done some transports, i’ve had a few temporary fosters, I helped a couple run for the Canadian border (legally), I photograph the animals at the shelter & am on the foster committee at the shelter too. I love it, it’s fantastic & rewarding..

The other day my friend who is a dog groomer extraordinaire & I took our pack (minus 1 who doesn’t like to go for car rides) out for a nature walk. It is such a COOL feeling to walk with a pack of dogs. It was a beautiful North Dakota day. Hello Sunshine! All but 1 of these dogs is a rescue. The odd ball moved with us from Germany. I love them all & their kooky personalities!

Giving Back

I believe that you are what you give. While I would make a great animal hoarder, I know that would be bad all around. Each time I go into the shelter, I wish I could take them all home. Since i’ve reached my pet limit & still want to help I decided to photograph the available dogs at Circle of Friends. This way they get amazing families, and I don’t end up on Animal Planet.

Meet My Girls

I’m a pet lover to say the least. I’ve never been happy unless there is an animal in my house. With all of our moves in the military I have unhappily & heavy heartily had to rehome some of our pets. When we moved from Okinawa Japan, we got our orders to leave on Friday, and left the next day. In the middle of “pcs season” as military people say there was no way to get them off the island. It makes me so sad to think about. Thankfully when we left Germany we had time to arrange for our pets to move stateside with us. We even drove them from Maryland where the “hop” drops us to Grand Forks, North Dakota. All because they couldn’t fly them in on the small planes (or so we were told).

Since we’ve been back state side 2.5 years now our pet family has grown. Bella, our Border Collie came with us from Germany.When we arrived at our house, my daughter & I rushed out to adopt a cat. We weren’t able to have one in Germany our landlady was allergic. In enters Granite the kitten, loud, obnoxious, drools, non-stop talker, my kinda cat! A few months down the line we enter petco to get some things for the animals. It’s adoption day! Oh NO! My husband jokingly says “wanna get another dog?” I immediately jumped in his line of sight and said (with big giant puppy dog eyes) “OMG can we”????!!!!! We went back to our local shelter & I said lets find something smaller, maybe Cocker Spaniel size. That is how we got Bailey the Rough Collie, who is NOT Cocker Spaniel size. She was just sitting in her kennel in the large dog room. Not barking, not jumping, just watching us. Never in my life did I want a “Lassie Dog” It just wasn’t on my wish list. She was 4 months old, and an adorable fluff ball. We took her to the “get to know you room” she let my daughter who was 6 at the time walk her to the room, never pulling on the leash. When we got her in the room she was very calm, let us pet her belly and just wanted to be with us. That was that, she picked us, we got a collie. Our leaving request from the woman at the front desk was to please not name her Lassie. 2 years pass & I see a post from a friend about a Great Dane in need of a new home. Great Danes have always been my dream dog. I knew when I grew up I would have one (thank you Scooby Doo!) I kept telling myself not until we are done with the military. I just happened to mention the situation to The Mr. & he says well i know it’s your dream dog she needs a good home, we just put up the fence, why don’t you get her. And than there were 3..

Another year gone by..

It is amazing how quickly they grow up.. Even when they aren’t MINE! There is no way it was a year ago that I did Miss D’s 2nd Birthday photos.. And now we’re on year 3! We walked all over University Park, looking at flowers, standing on rocks.. She is a very good tour guide.

Miss D’s nickname is Monkey, she does the BEST monkey dance.. I may have to make a little montage of that to post later..

That outfit was just too cute to NOT post in color.. Those balloons were super fun. Definitely can’t be incognito with those!
